SERVICE TO PERSONS WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS Available at all BranchesCCTV (Closed Circuit Television system) enlarges print materials so those with limited vision can read the text more easily. Large print books have print that is larger and easier to read. Hand-held magnifiers allow persons with low vision to magnify printed and handwritten materials for easier reading. Audio Books are books recorded onto cassette or compact disk for listening rather than reading. Descriptive videos describe the action of the movie with audio captions. Large screen computer monitors enlarge text for easier viewing. Big-key keyboard has larger buttons with enlarged letters for easier viewing.

Applications for service from the Wolfner Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped delivery program are available at all branches of the Jefferson County Library. The Wolfner Library offers free library service for blind and physically handicapped people. Available at Fox/Arnold and Northwest Branches Braille Books Available at Windsor Branch ZoomText enlarges the print on the computer screen when using application programs such as Microsoft Word or when surfing the Internet. JAWS is a screen reading program that provides audio output so patrons can hear what is printed on the computer screen. VERA (very easy reading appliance) scans print materials and converts it to audio output so that blind patrons can listen to the print materials being read.
Services to Persons with Hearing ImpairmentsClosed captioned videos provide a text description of the story taking place. Available at all branches. TTY, a telecommunications device for the deaf, is available for questions and book requests from library users who have TTY’s at home. This TTY is available during regular library hours at 636-461-1914.
Services to Persons with Mobility DisabilitiesClick here for a larger view of the scooter. A motorized scooter is available for those who have difficulty walking. The cart can be used throughout the library by making a request at the front desk upon entering the library. Available at the Windsor Branch. Books on the Run is a free delivery service that provides materials to qualifying persons indefinitely or temporarily restricted to home. Available at all branches. |
