DUE TO BUDGET CONSTRAINTS THE LIBRARY IMPLEMENTED A HIRING FREEZE EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 10, 2010. WHEN ANY VACANCY OCCURS THE POSITION MUST BE REVIEWED TO DETERMINE IF IT IS NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN BASIC SERVICE LEVELS. NO POSITION WILL BE REFILLED UNLESS AUTHORIZED AS NECESSARY BY THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR.

 Northwest Branch - Part time clerk

-- 25 hours per week; AVAILABILITY NEEDED: Evenings (usually 3:00-8 p.m.) at least 3 evenings per week;  at least 2 Saturdays per week (9:00-5).

The Library Clerk I performs clerical, customer service, and related tasks including shelving and filing, housekeeping chores such as straightening shelves and furniture, and other routine duties as assigned.   A Library Clerk I may be assigned additional tasks or responsibilities that require critical thinking as well as careful organization and planning.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Previous library experience is desirable but not required; strong computer skills; familiarity with the Dewey Decimal System; Ability to coordinate multiple tasks; Ability to function in a busy environment with minimal intervention by supervisor; Excellent telephone manners

Must pass criminal records check

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to carry 15 lb. loads over 100 feet; to push a loaded book cart (approximately 50 lbs) a distance of 25 feet without stopping; stand for three-hour periods without sitting; use a step stool and to lift 2 lbs. overhead to a height of 7.5 ft. and to bend, stoop, kneel to floor; ability to read 10 pt. type; hear patrons in conversational voice at distance of 4 ft. and on the telephone; speak clearly and audibly to patrons standing at 4 ft. distance; operate a computer keyboard, a touch-key telephone receiver and other office equipment
