Public Access Computer Use Guidelines for
Non-Internet Access
November 17, 2004
Time Limit: Public access computers are provided on a first come,
first serve basis. One thirty minute time limit per person per day will
be enforced if all computers are in use, and additional person(s) are
waiting to use the public access computers. Those individuals having used
the computers the longest will be asked to vacate computers first and will
be given a five minute grace period to save work and close programs. Public
access computers may on occasion be reserved for library use for training
programs or maintenance.
Saving Files: Users may save documents onto removable storage media
that can be provided by the user or obtained at the Information Desk for a
fee. The library assumes no responsibility for the loss of data during
computer usage. Patrons are encouraged to SAVE WORK OFTEN
to prevent data loss. If you need assistance with saving files, please ask
for help at the Information Desk.
Inappropriate Use: Public access computers are provided primarily for
educational purposes. The following user activities are considered
inappropriate, will not be tolerated, and may result in the revocation of
one’s computer user privileges:
· using the computer for purposes considered to
be inappropriate by Jefferson County Library staff (examples of such use
consist of anything deemed unacceptable by community standards and
unauthorized access of computer networks)
· treating the computers in a malicious manner or
otherwise attempting to inflict damage on library equipment
· installing software (inquiries pertaining to
software not available on public access computers should be made at the
Information Desk)
· altering or deleting computer hardware and/or
software configurations
· wasting computer resources via excessive
printing and/or non-payment for printed documents
· unruly, loud or obnoxious behavior that
disturbs other computer users and/or library patrons.
Unacceptable Use: Each computer user is responsible for utilizing
computing resources in an ethical and lawful manner. Use of the computers
for illegal purposes will not be tolerated. Such use will result in the
immediate revocation of one’s computer user privileges. In the event
that a public access computer is utilized for illegal purposes, local law
enforcement officials may be contacted and provided with relevant
information. Individuals may not use the public access computers for any
purpose that will violate local, state or federal laws or any regulations of
the library district including, but not limited to, the Missouri Revised
Statutes Chapters 573 Pornography and Related Offenses, 565.090
Harassment, 565.225 Stalking, and 566 Sexual Offenses.
Use of public access computers for the unauthorized distribution of
copyrighted material is strictly prohibited.
