ADULT PROGRAMS at the WINDSOR BRANCH

First priority will be given to library district residents and non-resident cardholders signing up for programs with limited seating. Non-residents without library cards will be placed on a waiting list and notified by phone two or three days before the event as to availability of seating. This may especially affect those signing up for computer classes or hands-on programs.

Easy Bridge Class
Fridays, April 4 to June 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

This class has been designed for new players, as well as experienced players who are interested in improving their bidding skills.  Bridge is a beneficial social activity for improving memory and sharpening reasoning skills. The instructors of this twelve week course are members of the Greater St. Louis chapter of the American Contract Bridge League.

This class if free and open to the public. Participants in the program may purchase the class manual at cost. For more information call Luke at 933-9121 or Carl at 285-9687, or log onto www.unit143.org.  Registration is requested by calling the library at 461-1914.

Basic Watercolor Painting
Saturday, May 10th
9:00 a.m. to Noon

The class will cover the primary techniques used in watercolors, and all supplies will be provided. The program is free, but space is very limited. Sponsored by the Friends of the Windsor Branch. Please call 461-1914 to sign up.

Friends in Harmony
Musical Performance
Saturday, May 17th at 2:00 p.m.

The Friends in Harmony Women’s Barbershop Chorus will perform favorites in four-part harmony. Prospective new members are welcome to attend. The program is free and open to the public.Call 461-1914 for more information.

AARP Safe Driving Course
Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.


This eight hour class will help seniors drive defensively, deal with aggressive drivers and adjust to vision and hearing loss.  Other topics include new traffic laws, proper use of anti-lock brakes, airbags, safety belts, and handling problem situations. There is a $10.00 fee for this course.

June

10th Anniversary Celebration
Saturday, June 7 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m.

Bring the family and celebrate our 10th anniversary luau.  There will be games, prizes, give-aways and a special visit by Spongebob Squarepants.

Thursday, May 29 at 9:15 a.m.

Discusses the hardware and Windows XP operating system software. Includes how to use the mouse, how to create folders, and how to manipulate multiple windows to accomplish tasks.

 June

Basic Internet               
June 4 at 6:15 p.m.
June 5 at 9:15 a.m.

 The Basic Internet seminar will emphasize what is needed to surf the Internet, and how to use search engines to find information on the Internet.

Basic Email                  
June 18 at 6:15 p.m.
June 19 at 9:15 a.m.

The Basic E-mail seminar walks through how to sign up for web based E-mail and how to use the various features of an account to send and receive both E-mail and attachments.

Basic Word                  
June 25 at 6:15 p.m.
June 26 at 9:15 a.m.

The Basic Word seminar will show how to use the Microsoft Word program to do basic word processing tasks. Additional topics will cover the menu bar and tool bars.

July

Basic Excel                  
July 2 at 6:15 p.m.
July 3 at 9:15 a.m.

The Basic Excel seminar will show how to use the Microsoft Excel program to do basic spreadsheet operations. Additional topics will cover the menus and toolbars, and formulas.

Basic Tune-up              
July 23 at 6:15 p.m.
June 24 at 9:15 a.m.

The Computer Tune-up seminar will discuss how to optimize your computer for best operation. Additional topics will include how to update programs, how to run antivirus and antispyware programs, how to delete unused programs, how to back up data, how to clean and Defragment the hard drive, as well as how to clean the physical hardware.
